This is one of the most important lessons that Carrie and I have learned on our journey. It’s at the heart of what we do, why we do it and what we hope to inspire you to do. When you own this concept, the fact that you and only you, are responsible for your happiness, for your feelings, there is so much power in it!


First, you realize that while you can’t control how another person acts, you get to decide how you react and how you choose to feel about it. Second, you stop waiting for other people, things, situations to “make you happy” and start finding ways to create your own happiness.


In this episode of Coffee with Carrie & Calie, we illustrate our point by creating time for self-care, but owning your happiness can take many forms. We just have to stop waiting for permission to be happy, waiting for permission to take care of ourselves and start taking little steps each day to bring our focus, our intention, and our actions to the things that light us up, bring us joy, make us smile and help us feel good. It’s not selfish you guys, it’s simply self-care! When you’re happy, your happiness will spill over to the people around you, but it has to start with you and in you.
